Born April 26, 1954 in Waverly, Alabama, Curtis Lee Black, Jr. came to Buffalo with his parents Curtis L. Black, Sr., and the late Ruby Seal Black at the age of 2. Curtis became involved in music at a early age thanks to his parents.
Curtis took private guitar lessons beginning at age 10 with music instructor Professor Woodard. He continued to be involved in music singing (bass & baritone) and playing in the school band & choir, directing Church choirs, different 70s bands such as The Inter-city Sounds, People‘s Choice, The Definitions, and Black Cotton & Silk String, just to name a few.
In 1990, Curtis joined legendary radio station WUFO. This gave Curtis a another opportunity to use his voice and to gain additional knowledge about the music industry. During this time, Curtis noticed radio stations in Western New York were not playing much local or any Southern soul blues. This lead to the development of the "Rhythm and Blues Revue" radio and TV show, featuring local musicians, national Blues and R&B acts, interviews, commentary and some local event information.
In 1992, long time friend Leander Roberson joined the "Rhythm & Blues Revue" team. Together, along with Adonis Productions, they videotaped the Memphis in May Celebration and the W. C. Handy Blues awards, featuring one of the best videotaped interviews with the late great blues guitarist Luther Allison.
Curtis has interviewed numerous national and local artists. He has also been a volunteer judge for the Western New York Blues Society Memphis Bound competition three times and was also inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
He has done historical documentaries for the local school systems and lends his voice to different computerized voice systems in the area.
Curtis continues to be involved in the local community as well as promoting local music, national Blues artists and his voice can be heard on commercials around Western New York.
